Ashtanga Yoga & Ayurveda Immersion Retreat

29 April - 2 May, 2027 in Twente, NL with Maxi

A retreat is an opportunity to take space to nourish yourself in exactly the way you need. For some it is a deep dive into self-study. For others, it's a time to gently unfold, rest and soak up the magic of time away. Both are welcome here.

What makes this retreat different is what happens in the space between those two things.

This is not a light-touch weekend. We go deep - into Ayurveda beyond doshas and food lists, into yoga beyond asana, into the nervous system, the senses, the layers of what it means to actually come home to yourself. Past participants have described it as the most comprehensive retreat they've attended - closer to an immersive training (with still plenty of rest) rather than a typical yoga retreat.

Around 19 hours of contact time across four days, woven together as one coherent experience rather than a series of separate sessions.

One of the gifts of stepping away from your regular routine and daily life is that you can begin to see your own patterns more clearly - and decide, from a more grounded place, which ones you want to carry forward and which ones you're ready to leave behind.

The intention is always the same: To come back to the world with more wholeness.

We stay at the Oerboerderij - a cozy farmhouse tucked into the woods near de Lutte in Twente. Past participants often say arriving here is already half the retreat. About 1h 45min south of Groningen.

Let’s be honest: Inhabiting a space to be fully ourselves, cultivating receptivity to deep insights and new perspectives, and accessing deep relaxation can be very challenging in our busy day-to-day lives. A retreat is an opportunity to get all of that more easily and directly. The idea is to carry what we find on retreat back into our regular lives.

I was so fortunate to join Maxi’s  “Ashtanga Yoga & Ayurveda retreat” in Twente in March 2024. I travelled from Copenhagen, Denmark. I started my trip by going to Groningen and practicing with Maxi at Bhumi Yoga before going to the retreat, such a wonderful community there is in Groningen and I really love Maxi’s gentle approach, I felt like I’ve always practiced there.

I carpooled with one of the other participants to the retreat and arrived safely at the cutest farmhouse in the middle of the forest. I instantly knew this was going to be amazing. Meet the rest of the participants, people with different practice levels (from beginner to very seasoned practitioner) and goals for the practice and reason for joining.

Maxi is the sweetest soul and her knowledge seems endless, her approach is calm and gentle. It was really nice to go in depth with the pranayama techniques and learn some kriyas from scratch, which I never really did.

The food was divine and got inspired to cook more Ayurvedic at home.

I give my best recommendations for joining this retreat and it’s definitely worth travelling for. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Joining Maxi’s retreat together with my partner was a wonderful experience.

Of course, there was plenty of yoga, but what surprised me most was how much I learned about Ayurveda and daily life. We explored practical topics such as nutrition, routines and simple ways to take better care of ourselves. I came home with useful ideas that I could immediately apply in everyday life, even something as simple as preparing a quick, healthy breakfast.

The yoga sessions were equally valuable. I gained a better understanding of how to create calmness during practice, how to let go of expectations and how to settle more easily into the present moment. These are things that continue to support me, both on and off the mat.

The retreat also brought together a wonderful group of people. It was inspiring to hear different stories, perspectives and experiences. Some of the connections were so meaningful that we are still in touch today!

What I appreciated most was the balance between learning, practising, reflecting and simply being. The programme was well structured, yet there was plenty of space to relax, enjoy nature and recharge.

I returned home feeling more grounded, more aware and with practical tools that I still use in daily life. For anyone looking for a retreat that goes beyond yoga alone and offers real depth in a warm and welcoming environment, I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

I have absolutely enjoyed the Ashtanga Mysore practices, your clear explanations of (the philosophy of) yoga and Ayurveda, the beautiful surroundings and delicious food! I’m grateful for all of this and in particular for the tips and adjustments you gave me regarding my sore hamstrings and elbows. I will explore what works for me, both in my yoga practice as well as for Ayurveda. A big thank you!
