Ashtanga Yoga · Somatic Coaching · Workshops & Retreats
Three Friday afternoons in Groningen, in English.
Whether you care for people, teach, lead, or work closely with others in a team, you probably know this: you listen, you adjust, you hold a lot. A tense meeting, high expectations, a team under pressure. And sometimes you go home carrying more than your own day: someone's restlessness still in your shoulders, a conversation that keeps replaying.
That is not a weakness. Our nervous systems are built to respond to each other, in every conversation, meeting and collaboration. That responsiveness is part of what makes you good at working with others. It is also why it can wear you down, or pull you away from yourself.
Or perhaps you are simply curious how the nervous system shapes the way we meet each other, and what you can do with that in your work.
What this training can give you
-
Feeling more grounded and steady in conversations, meetings and busy days, even when things around you are not
-
A simple, practical understanding of how your nervous system works, and a language for what happens in you and in others
-
Getting to know your own stress responses and familiar patterns, and gradually building more choice in how you respond
-
Being fully present for others without losing yourself
-
Noticing the urge to fix, and trusting that your presence is often enough
-
Leaving work at work more easily

Steady in Yourself, Present With Others
Your Nervous System in Your Work With People
A body-based, experiential training for anyone whose work involves other people.
Mostly experiential, with just enough theory to understand what you feel. We work in small, manageable steps and at your own pace. You will practice orienting, noticing what happens in your body, and moving gently between what feels difficult and what supports you, and you will learn the basics of how the nervous system senses safety.
This is not therapy; it is practical support for you and your work.
How we work in this training
-
29 January: Feeling steady in yourself. Simple ways to settle, and how your body senses safety.
-
5 February: Staying with yourself while with others. Being there for someone without losing yourself, or needing to fix.
-
12 February: Your space, your work. Healthy boundaries, and leaving work at work.
Between theses training days there is a small, light home practice, a few minutes a day.

Dates & cost
Is this therapy? No. The training is practical and experiential, focused on building steadiness and presence in your work. It does not involve working through personal trauma.
I am going through a difficult time at the moment. Is this training right for me? Feel free to contact me first. If you are in the middle of a burnout or a crisis, individual support may suit you better right now, and I am happy to think along with you.
Is this a yoga or breathwork training? No. Although I am also a yoga teacher, this training has a different focus and does not include yoga or breathing exercises. It draws on my 15 years of working with people one-on-one as a body-oriented coach, and on my Somatic Experiencing® training. Both start from the body’s own capacity to regulate. Rather than learning a technique to calm down, we slow down and notice how your nervous system responds, in small, manageable steps and in contact with others. When the body has room to orient and feel supported, it has the chance to settle and find new ways of responding. What you take with you is less a set of exercises, and more a better sense of your own responses and of what helps you come back to yourself.
What if I miss a training day? The training days build on each other, so the training is designed for you to join all three. Please check that the dates work for you before you sign up.
Will there be partner exercises? Yes, some exercises are done in pairs or small groups, always at your own pace and with the choice to watch instead.
Can my employer pay for the training? Often, yes. Many organizations have a training or development budget. I am happy to send the invoice directly to your employer.

I am Maxi Meissner. For more than 15 years I have worked with people one-on-one, as a body-oriented coach and Ayurveda counselor, and since 2010 I have run my own yoga school in Groningen, Bhumi Yoga. Alongside this, I bring a background in science and healthcare: a PhD in Medical Sciences, research on the effects of yoga on emotional well-being at the University of Groningen, and work in clinical rehabilitation. I am currently in the Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner training.
As a former world champion rower and researcher, I know from the inside what it is like to keep striving while losing touch with yourself. Getting to know my own nervous system, the patterns that once helped me cope and what truly supports me now, has changed how I relate to myself, to the people close to me and to my work. This training is built on what I have learned, personally and professionally.
