Embodied Ashtanga Workshop 4: Rhythm & Focus: Vinyasa as a Foundation

21 November, 8-14.00h, in Groningen

A full workshop exploring mindful transitions and rhythm in practice. The morning practice session focuses on bringing intention, clarity, and steadiness to each movement, using the vinyasa count as a tool (not dogma) to integrate breath, movement, and presence. In the late morning session, we deepen understanding through philosophy, hands-on exploration, and asana lab, learning how rhythm and mindful transitions support stability, flow, and focus, with practical ways to refine awareness and embody connected, responsive movement both on and off the mat.

SCOPE:

This is the last of four workshops in 2026 designed to deepen your practice, refine your understanding, and cultivate steadiness, insight, and joy - on and off the mat. Each session combines guided kriya, pranayama, led Ashtanga practice, and exploration of philosophy, anatomy, subtle energy, and rhythm. Join us to enrich your practice, explore key themes in depth, and connect with a supportive community of fellow practitioners. These workshops can be booked individually or as a package.

SCHEDULE & WHAT WE WILL DO:

1. Morning Practice (8:00–10:30h)

Guided kriya, pranayama, and workshop-style Ashtanga practice exploring decisive and mindful transitions and cultivating rhythm through the vinyasa count.

We will explore:

  • Bringing intention and clarity into each transition, moving with steadiness rather than rushing or tension. Remember: How we get in and out of a "situation" shapes the experience of situation

  • Cultivating a sense of rhythm in the practice, using the vinyasa count as a tool (but not dogma)  to integrate breath, movement, and presence

2. Late Morning Session (11:30–14:00h)

A blend of philosophydrawing from yoga & Ayurveda philosophy as well as polyvagal theory,  embodied exploration, and hands-on asana lab to deepen understanding and integration of a decisive yet agreeable rhythm, supporting focus, clarity, and flow.

We will explore:

  • How mindful transitions can cultivate stability, fluidity, and ease throughout the practice, including a detailed look at seated transitions and multiple ways to approach them mindfully - building strength and space without overexertion or forcing the body.

  • Subtle adjustments and micromovements to refine awareness and embody a more connected, responsive flow.

  • The concept of ritam (rhythm) through the lens of yoga philosophy, Ayurveda, and polyvagal theory

  • An introduction to the vinyasa count, giving you practical tools to begin applying it in your practice if desired
